Hope & Belief

(Romans 4:18 KJV)  Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

What's the difference between hope and belief?

Believing is knowing it CAN happen, hope is knowing it WILL happen someday.
Romans 5:5
"And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."
Hebrews 6:
18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy Word above all thy name.

Psalm 138:2 (KJV)

No.  I'm sorry but I don't have a clear answer for that question.  If I figure it out I'll let you know.

Quote from Tim:

What's the difference between hope and belief?

This scripture is about Abraham who was promised that he would be the Father of many nations.  He seemed to believe God but there is some evidence that his wife lost a bit of hope along the way.  She is the one who suggested that Abraham go into the handmaid - she was humanly reasoning that this must be how God was going to fullfil his promise.

So it appears that we might believe but we can begin to lose hope and then human reasoning enters in and when that happens we try to help God out.   God didn't need any help.  He was shown even more powerful though his fulfillment after things look impossible.  Like a 90 yr old woman having a baby.

It is not easy to continue trusting God when "it' doesn't seem possible but then, that is when God gets all the glory.  It is important to remember that IT IS ALL ABOUT HIM.... not us.   God wants us to trust and obey.   That is when we hold on to hope because we believe.
