Each of us will be held accountable.  We must do what we believe the Lord is leading us to do, and if some believe it is right to give a tenth of their income, fine, and if others give less than a tenth or more, that's fine too.  We need to just keep our eyes on the Lord and not get caught up in arguments that cause divisions amongst Christians.
Trust in the Lord no matter how bad your situation seems, and don't think or worry about what's going on.  Concentrate your thoughts on the Lord and just ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen you and help you to pray the right prayers.  Pray earnestly, forgiving every single person that sins against you

Origen,

Should we throw away the entire Old Testament?

Jackie,

You are right in that we will each be held accountable by God for what we do, or do not do. You're also right in that we should not get caught up in arguments that cause divisions. Tithing does seem to be one of these things. Maybe this subject should not have been discussed.

It's been discussed over and over on another website. The outcome is always the same. Those who believe it still believe in it, and those opposed to it remain opposed.

As for me, I'm not going to argue the issue at all. It's a non-issue for me. I decided long ago to give the first 10% of my income to God and claim the blessings of Malachi 3:10-11. When I hold my tithe check up to the Lord before taking it to the church to put it in the offering, and I pray those verses over it, that God will open to me the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that there's not room enough to receive and also rebuke the devourer for me, the power of God falls on me.

I'm not going to squabble about 10%. He so blesses me beyond measure with the other 90% that I've found it worth it to trust Him with the first part of my income. Also, I thank Him whenever I have any tithe to bring, because that means that I've had some income that week.

Love,

Ann

When I was writing the last post the words that came to mind were those regarding the whole argument about whether it is right to eat meat offered to idols; you remember what the outcome of that was don't you?  If you don't remember say, and I'll look it up.  The overall outcome was we should do nothing that might cause another believer to stumble...sounds good to me!!

I don't think your idea of throwing away the old testament is a good one.

There's no place in the new testament that teaches that Christians should tithe.  It's not biblical.  Anyone who teaches it isn't teaching the bible.  What they're teaching is something that's in the old testament and meant for Jews.

St Paul said we are NOT to give of necessity. The tithe was a necessity.
2 Corinthians 9:
"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

Why was the tithe instituted in the first place?
So the temple would be kept up (now we are the temple) and so there would be no poor amongst God's people, thus bringing shame to the name of the Lord.
And the tithe was ALWAYS from the increase, not the lack.
I, for one, will never limit myself to the tithe again!

God gives seed to the sower, so if you are not a sower, don't expect Him to give you seed.  :8
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy Word above all thy name.
