My Theology Project
« on: November 12, 2009, 08:34:30 AM »
I’m putting together notes to write a book of theology.  When I first felt led to do this I thought it would be a simple task since I knew what I believed and wanted to provide others with some foundational information about the bible. The more I look into it; the more I think about it; the more I pray about it; the less sure I am that I know what needs to go into this book.

I know that sometimes the subject of theology is a difficult one for the body of Christ.  Some believe that we should follow our experiences with the Lord.  Others think that we should simply take the bible literally.  Others feel we shouldn’t be literal but include history, culture, and context.

What I’d like from everyone who feels led to share is their honest opinion.  What I’d like to avoid is any kind of contention.  Everyone has an opinion and often the clash of opinions causes strife and that’s not the goal here.

What I need is help from you all.  If you wouldn’t mind, could you answer the following questions:

What topics would you like to see addressed in a book of theology?

How do you think a book of theology would help?

Who do you think needs a book of theology and why?

What foundational approach do you think should be adopted when writing a book of theology?

Thanks for taking the time to answer these four questions.  It will help me better refine my task and hopefully help me get it written quicker.

I sincerely believe we do not need another theology book to line the shelfs with. I understood that it is all in the bible and we rely on the Holy Spirit. God bless you, if it is the Fathers will, maybe your book will reach just one person and bring them to the Lord, if thats the case then a library worth the book shelfs would be worth it.

I enjoy  hearing about theology in the stories of people and their experiences with the Lord. I will keep you in my prayer that you may write whatever the Father guides you to.

Peace.
Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God is one LORD: and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.  Deuteronomy 6:4-5

I'm not sure.

I think it would help me learn a lot more about the bible.

Everyone needs to learn more about the bible, don't they?

I don't know what that means.  I'd like it to be easy to read.  If it's not I probably won't even read it.

How many books of theology are there?  Personally I've never seen any books of theology.

Why would one more book of theology be a problem?  Nobody seems to be complaining about all the other books that people write.  I guess I just don't understand grumpiness.  I don't see why anyone would buy  book just to 'line the shelf'.  The purpose of a book is to be read.
