I'm responding to something Joy said on another thread, but I got off topic so I'm starting this topic up:
Another scripture I like to remember often is, resist the devil and he will run from you. That one makes me chuckle; just the thought of the devil running away from me.
James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
What a great idea! It never occurred to me to envision something like that when dealing with temptation.
It reminds me of a dream (or vision) I had many years ago. I had been struggling with a serious drug addiction.
The enemy came to me in a dream and got me high. It was very real and powerful. I was unable to resist or wake myself up. When suddenly I cried out to the Lord.
It may sound a bit corny, but an army of angels came thundering down over a hill top, on horseback, many carrying banners, huge spears or swords. Jesus Himself was leading them. I knew it was Him because He was almost to bright to look at. The dream had been very dark and oppressive, but the light from the Lord made the darkness flee immediately. The devil and his demons tucked tail and ran, screaming for their lives like cowards.
When I woke up there was a very strong presence of the Lord in the room, almost a glow. I remember thanking Him for
my deliverence and I thought He said, 'I will always come when you call me like that.'
After spending sometime talking to Him and enjoying His presence, I enjoyed a very deep and peaceful sleep. I had not thought of this in sometime, but it was a very real and powerful experience. Your post reminded me of it.
The enemy never tried to attack me in that manner again!
(until now, I shared this with only a few people, but I am curious to know if others have had any similar experiences?)
