Pls pray for my son in the US Army - Denied Emergency Leave
« on: April 11, 2009, 06:03:59 PM »
Please pray for my son.  He is a Sgt in the US Army.  When his Grandmother passed away I contacted the Red Cross to get a message to his commander.  Two commanders agreed that he should come home at this difficult time to be with family.  However, since they could not agree on his return date, his emergency leave was denied.

Please pray for Dave.  He was close to his Grandmother.  She had a special place in his heart.  He was very much looking forward to seeing her when he came back here in late June.  He will not see her here when he returns.

We have decided to post pone the memorial service for his Grandmother until he returns.  Please pray for his peace and comfort at this difficult time.

Thank you for yourr prayers and concern for our soldier son.

Liberal bureaucrats! What can you do? They worship rules and red tape!   >:(
Common sense has gone by the wayside.
I don't have much respect for those types, but I have a good deal of respect for soldiers.
Some join for selfish reasons, but most are patriots.

Forgive me if I get a bit off topic for a minute, but this will all tie together eventually, I hope.

I had a customer back in the early 90's who stormed Omaha beach in Normandy back in '44 I think it was.
He was elderly and frail, but you could still see the fire in his eyes when he spoke to me about that day.
I was surprised he was willing to share, I guess he felt a kinship with me...

In the late 60's, I was a young,
dumb, liberal, hippie type, who didn't know which way was up. Traveled all over the country trying to find myself,
if you know what I mean. Rock festivals, communes, the 'whole nine yards'.

Man, I studied every religion known to man, and then some. I was turned off by my Catholic upbringing, and disillusioned.
All that time, I had a pocket new testament in my Army jacket. Never bothered reading it until I had an acid trip
that convinced me of the existence of Satan. (Halls of Karma type experience for any old hippies out there.)(Lord have mercy on my soul/Black Oak Arkansas.)
Sometime later, realizing that wasn't the way to go, I reasoned if Satan was real, God must be too.
That set me off on a search for truth, that ended with the Creator God. (I'll have to share more about that later)

Anyway, God changed my mind about almost everything. Overnight it seems: sin, abortion, homosexuality, drugs,
defending my Country in a just war, etc.

It seemed as though a veil had been lifted from my eyes, and I could finally see clearly.
That's when I came to respect authority, especially soldiers. I never served, but I think I would have been a good one. God has a way of making us braver than we really are and replacing fear with righteousness.

I guess that old soldier could see that in my eyes that cold winter day back in the early 90's. I remember thinking
later after seeing 'Saving Private Ryan', that it was exactly as he described. Friends falling to his left and to his right. He said war was a terrible thing, but some things are worth fighting for. Truer words were never spoken.

When I left that day, I shook his hand and told him how honored I was to meet him, and how much it meant to me
to meet someone who had risked his life for the multitudes who had never met him. I guess that's part of why I get
so upset seeing whats happening in America today. So many have gave so much for us and many of us don't really care. You see, it's just not cool. It's not politically correct. Just ask the 'beautiful people' in Hollywood.

Then it occurred to me, I know someone else who was brutally tortured and murdered in a very painful and gruesome manner, so that we might have FREEDOM from sin and eternal life with Him.

'Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.' John 15:13
How much MORE love was displayed by the One who gave His life for us while we were His enemies.

May the good Lord bless and keep your son Dave, this Easter season Ro, May his face shine upon him, keep him safe, and bring him home soon.

About now he might agree with you, at least in part.

Please continue to pray for him.  He is trying to re-enlist but has to pass the PT test, not sure that is what they call it but it is similiar.

He is going for the next test on Monday...April 19.  Please pray that the Lord's will be done.  Part of me wants him to get out ASAP but part of me wants him to get this so he can have an opportunity to go to Germany for the next assignment.

No matter where he is, the Lord will have to take care of him.  He has so far and I do not expect that to change.  I know I can't help him, I have given him completely to God to take care of him and his family who have gone through a lot to serve their country.

Wouldn't it be great if we Christians had that kind of commitment.... ohhh that is another topic for BB. :)

You have said that the two commanders agreed that your son should come home at this difficult time to be with family. I think, his emergency leave should be legal because his two leader agreed on it?

The interesting thing about the military is that once they make a decision, it is made.  Sometimes the decisions make sense and some times they do not.  However, they teach the troops to obey without question because in war time it could save their lives or their buddies life.  It can be that iimportant.

They told David he was too important to let go home because they were so close to the end of the mission.

We did have the memorial service for his Grandmother when he got back.  He told everyone he wanted to come home when she passed but was unable to do so.  He then spoke about his great love for his grandmother.  It was precious to hear him speak from his heart like that. He stood there and cried.  We all just waited for him to regain his composure.  His sisters all got up and spoke about their love for their grandmother also.  It was a special service, which we all cherished.

BTW... he has now been transferred to Germany.  This time his wife and son went with him.  He joined the military to see the world and this is more like what he had in mind rather than just seeing the desert for 1 - 1 1/2 yrs at a time.   He is hoping that his service in Germany will not be interttuped by a deployment to the war zone again.  He has been there 3 times for a total of 3 1/2 yrs. He wants to be with his family for more than 9 months at a time.

Thank you for your concern and prayers for him and his family.  Serving in the military is a real sacrifice.  I have learned how very much our men and women serve when they are in the military.  I respect all of them a LOT!
