Liberal bureaucrats! What can you do? They worship rules and red tape!

Common sense has gone by the wayside.
I don't have much respect for those types, but I have a good deal of respect for soldiers.
Some join for selfish reasons, but most are patriots.
Forgive me if I get a bit off topic for a minute, but this will all tie together eventually, I hope.
I had a customer back in the early 90's who stormed Omaha beach in Normandy back in '44 I think it was.
He was elderly and frail, but you could still see the fire in his eyes when he spoke to me about that day.
I was surprised he was willing to share, I guess he felt a kinship with me...
In the late 60's, I was a young,
dumb, liberal, hippie type, who didn't know which way was up. Traveled all over the country trying to find myself,
if you know what I mean. Rock festivals, communes, the 'whole nine yards'.
Man, I studied every religion known to man, and then some. I was turned off by my Catholic upbringing, and disillusioned.
All that time, I had a pocket new testament in my Army jacket. Never bothered reading it until I had an acid trip
that convinced me of the existence of Satan. (Halls of Karma type experience for any old hippies out there.)(Lord have mercy on my soul/Black Oak Arkansas.)
Sometime later, realizing that wasn't the way to go, I reasoned if Satan was real, God must be too.
That set me off on a search for truth, that ended with the Creator God. (I'll have to share more about that later)
Anyway, God changed my mind about almost everything. Overnight it seems: sin, abortion, homosexuality, drugs,
defending my Country in a just war, etc.
It seemed as though a veil had been lifted from my eyes, and I could finally see clearly.
That's when I came to respect authority, especially soldiers. I never served, but I think I would have been a good one. God has a way of making us braver than we really are and replacing fear with righteousness.
I guess that old soldier could see that in my eyes that cold winter day back in the early 90's. I remember thinking
later after seeing 'Saving Private Ryan', that it was exactly as he described. Friends falling to his left and to his right. He said war was a terrible thing, but some things are worth fighting for. Truer words were never spoken.
When I left that day, I shook his hand and told him how honored I was to meet him, and how much it meant to me
to meet someone who had risked his life for the multitudes who had never met him. I guess that's part of why I get
so upset seeing whats happening in America today. So many have gave so much for us and many of us don't really care. You see, it's just not cool. It's not politically correct. Just ask the 'beautiful people' in Hollywood.
Then it occurred to me, I know someone else who was brutally tortured and murdered in a very painful and gruesome manner, so that we might have FREEDOM from sin and eternal life with Him.
'Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.' John 15:13
How much MORE love was displayed by the One who gave His life for us while we were His enemies.
May the good Lord bless and keep your son Dave, this Easter season Ro, May his face shine upon him, keep him safe, and bring him home soon.
