Speaking in Tongues
« on: May 12, 2008, 12:29:52 PM »
Many people don't realize it but there are different kinds of speaking in tongues.

There is the speaking in tongues that took place on the day of Pentecost.  No interpreter was needed.

There's the speaking in tongues that's to be done in the church which requires an interpreter and is designed to deliver a message to the church body.

Finally there's the speaking in tongues that's for personal edification (build up of) your faith that's to be done in secret in your prayer closet (in your private prayer time with God).

Three kinds of speaking in tongues.  Which one(s) have you spoken in?

This is the type of tongues I do.

Retrospectively, I am not doing that much.

This sunday the message in our church was "we should be as the willows by the brook" and the preacher refered to the river mentioned

I think this is a call to me to pray more in tongues.

Thanks Tim for this post.

You're welcome, Edward.  I don't pray in tongues nearly as much as I should.  Perhaps I should listen to the stuff I post and follow through! ;)

Praying in tongues is where I think most people speak in tongues.

One night when I was on my way home from school I felt a heavy heart for one of my son-in-laws and just began to pray in tongues. I did not know what I was praying for but I felt an intense urgency to pray for him so I went with it.

The next day my son-inlaw had a very difficult day.  He was on the verge of suicide.  He has had some severe bondages in his life and we are praying for him constantly but that day was more unusual than normal.

When I heard what was happening that next day, I, of course, began to pray for him but I also realised that I had been praying in the Spirit the night before for him, so the angels had already been dispatched to assist him.

All went well.  He had some difficult days but he did not choose to take his life.  God is still working with him and he has my son in-law in his loving arms walking him through life.

Also, sometimes when I am listening to, and singing along with, Praise and Worship music in the car, I just start praising his name and then I start praying and praising him in the Spirit. Sometimes there just are not enough words or the right words to praise him in our earthly language.  He is sooooo awesome!!!!

Thank you Jesus!

That is interesting. I have read that praying in tounges eddifies. I have not prayed in tounges for about a month now :-X I have been so ill and tired that I have just been praying  in my head (it makes me go into a coughing fit to speak more than a couple of sentences). I bet that that would really help me right now. What a timely word, Tim, thanks!

I have been accused of being time challenged...so I understand needing to post in a timely manner.   ;D

Also, I get so busy I don't take time during the week to post here and last weekend I got so busy I did not post.

Sorry about that.

Yeah, it's summer time and a lot of the posting has slowed down.  That's normal.  It will pick up more when the cold weather hits and people are inside and a little more bored. :D

Well, Tim, as hot as it is, I'm inside a lot these days...and speaking in tongues a lot more than before...so much need. Praying in tongues a lot really helps get a breakthrough, and I've surely needed one.

Whatever we need, God's got it...got to go to Him for it.

 ;)
