The Light Club was established with the intent of providing a positive and safe environment for people to come together in fellowship. This Club is an alternative to the bar scene. It is our hope that The Light Club will bring a message of unity and hope to our community. This Christian Club officially opened July 27th, 2001 with the dedication taking place on July 20th open by invitation to the business community and city officials. The owner, Kenya Burnett had a vision of this club for approximately a year before she saw the reality of what the Lord had placed on her heart. During that year she now reflects that the Lord was preparing her for this new journey in life. He Mother became seriously ill in February and as she took a leave of absence from work to support her Mother's needs at this time she was learning a new dimension of God's love. Upon her Mother's passing just days before Mother's Day this year, she knew, as her Mother had told her, she MUST step out in faith and follow where the Lord would lead her in this new horizon the Lord was giving her. She began this Christian Club without any funds just a great deal of faith and TRUST that what the Lord anoints He pays for. She is awed by the journey and the support she has received by many in the community. While it is still a day by day walk of faith she knows that this club is what the Lord wants for the area. The Light Club is a Christian based business at 1239 1st Avenue North in St. Petersburg, Florida. It is only blocks from the Tropicana Field. From their entrance one stands in the shadows of the ominous "Trop". The Light Club is across the street from a bar. This gives them opportunity to welcome in a wondering soul. It is also about one block from the St. Petersburg police station. When Burnett walked into this building she knew "this is it". There was a church meeting in the space just east of them and recently they were told they had to leave because there is an ordnance about how close a church can be to a bar. However, Kenya sees this as an opportunity to expand and she just keeps saying, Thank You Lord. Presently they are only open on Friday and Saturday nights. However, The Light Club is available for rent for special occasions. If you are looking for an attractive and affordable place to host your special event give Kenya a call and tell her BelieversBay.Com sent you. It is attractively decorated with small tables placed about the main room with table cloths and candles. It is very easy to find, located on the corner of 13th Street and 1st Avenue North in St. Petersburg. Parking is not a problem with spaces available on the street in front of the building, behind the building and on adjacent streets. Ms. Bennett is a wife, Mother, and now business owner. She candidly states that to this point she and her family have financed this endeavors. There is a cover charge at the door to pay for the food offered and for the live entertainment that come from the local area. The Executive Producer of Warria Records frequents the club and promotes his local artist through the club. The D.J. Jeff "The Chief" Edwards presents urban music. He encourages audience participation. Some nights they have open mic. The club plays a variety of youthful music from Gospel Hip-Hop, Christian pop to Christian Rock. As a registered business in St. Petersburg, Kenya feels that gives her more freedom to run the business as the Lord would have her to run it. There are club rules on the front door before you enter. Rules like no profanity, no unlawful substances, etc. Yet she feels the club has a unique opportunity to be a witness to the local community of the Love of God. This is a club for everyone. While they do have youth nights they will welcome anyone in to this club where the Love of GOD shines so bright it is evident why the Lord has named this The Light Club. There is a $5.00 cover charge for Saturday nights and a $10 cover charge for Friday nights when they have the buffet. Check it out some Friday or Saturday night. Doors open approximately 8:00p.m. See you there! |
