The ABCs of a Positive Thinking Life Style
By Ro Lashua
Positive thinking is not a mysterious, weird, or mystical process that Christians should avoid. On the contrary it is Biblical. We are told to renew our minds daily. We are told to give our burdens to Jesus and he will give us a lighter load to carry. Positive thinking is a key ingredient we can choose to add to our lives. This makes for amazing changes that will affect us, our children and generations to come. It is that powerful.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (KJV)
There are 3 simple steps to begin a life of positive thinking that will change our life. These keys will give us the tools to live a positive thinking life style. This will foster success in life. With the right tools we can invigorate our life with happiness, joy and excitement. To accomplish this we will need the ABCs of positive thinking.
A is for Attitude
We need to evaluate our attitude. This is a key ingredient to positive thinking. For every situation there is a positive and a negative way to see it. We can and should see both possibilities. That gives us a balanced and realistic view. However, we should focus on the positive. We should look for and expect a positive outcome.
We accomplish what we focus on. That is why people who focus on trouble and worry have troubles follow them. That is why those who focus on the success and positive outcomes have good things happen. It is true positive people also have troubles but they do not focus on them. That minimizes the power of the negatives in their life. We give trouble power over us when we continue to think about it.
God tells us that we need to be different from this world. We should not conform to this world. We need to renew our minds.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (KJV)
The most important thing to remember about attitude is that we CAN change it. We have the power to do that. We can choose what and how things happen rather than letting things happen to us.
B is for Building Blocks
Life is like a building. We are builders. We are either building with positive thinking or negative thinking. The more we build with positive thinking the stronger our life will be. The conversely is also true. If we build our life with negative thinking we are building with inferior mortar.
When the storms and winds of life come if we have built with the mortar of positive thinking the storms of life will not tear us apart. Remember that we are building our own life. We choose our own destiny. Evaluate our thoughts. Do we have ‘stinkin thinkin’ ( negative thoughts) or positive and joyful thoughts?
2Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
C is for Commitment
The most essential ingredient is commitment. Our foundation rests on our commitment. With a good attitude and positive thinking we can build our life with the blocks that matter to us. However, if we lack commitment it will not last.
Commitment is continuing on when we don’t feel like it. It is knowing the plan and working the plan. Then when the vision becomes foggy through the struggles of life, commitment enables us to stand.
Commitment is essential because without this key ingredient the project will be abandoned. Let’s not succumb to the negative thoughts of life and let them steal our commitment.
It is vitally important to know that our commitment is created before the trials come. In the middle of a trial isn’t the time to try and muster up commitment. That is done when we see clearly the plan before us and the mission is in clear view. That will give us the courage to stay committed when the view is obscured. That will happened as we walk through life’s ups and downs.
3John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.(KJV)
Begin Now
The ABCs of developing positive thinking as a habit in our life are:
• Attitude - Get and maintain a good attitude
• Build - Build the building blocks of the life WE want
• Commitment - Get committed before the storms come.
We need to start now. Start today. We must make a decision to change the rest of our life. It is essential to know that WE have the power to do this. The choice is ours. We no longer have to let life happen to us. We can be the master of our own destiny. We can make life go in the direction we want.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
