Integrity
By Ro Lashua

This month the topic is integrity. What a topic, at this season, filled with political rhetoric. Perhaps I am too old to believe everything I hear from them. Perhaps I have just been listening to the wrong politicians. However, I am already tired of the political ads and automated phone messages just before each election.

Integrity is about being trustworthy. It is about holding steadfast to one’s values. It is a characteristic that is too often not understood. I know this because I have been asking people what defines integrity and if someone can have integrity and immorality at the same time. The answers have been interesting.

It is our duty as believers to hold fast to what we have been taught by the word of God. We are to remain faithful. We are to look to God for the answers. We are not to compromise on our integrity.

We are living in a society where the lines between right and wrong have been, if not erased, grayed out so there seems to be no definitive answers to moral and ethical questions. Is it possible to maintain our integrity in such an environment?

Absolutely!

We know there are many even in this society that still do understand there are absolutes, however, the concern is, without a strong moral background and a strong Faith, how long will they remain strong and hold to standards?

As a Christian believer in Jesus Christ as my Savior, I know that I answer to Him. He wants me to hold fast to what is true, what is right and what is moral. I found out, the hard way, that is not a respected point of view in the workplace. People who hold to true ethical standards are viewed as naive and just a simple person. That is basically harmless unless those individuals are placed in power of authority over us and then it can affect even our future employment.
The person of integrity will hold fast to ethical standards and not compromise, no matter the consequences. That is the trait of integrity, to hold fast to moral and ethical standards. If we don’t hold fast to it, we do not have integrity.

The way we live our life each day speaks volumes to those around us. It shows our ethical standards and our moral standards. We do not have to preach the gospel with words, we can “preach the gospel” by our integrity. It is so different than the human nature of mankind it speaks for us.

As we learn the word of God, the Bible and we change our lives to live according to that word, we become people of integrity. We then become Children of God who are more and more like Jesus.

Thank you Jesus!
