Sharing the Love of God with Common Sense

A Word In Season

From Goofy to Glorious
By Ann Doupont

Most, if not all, of us have done some “goofy” things in our lives, especially before we were saved. Some of our habits have not changed, and we’ve settled into our old ways, thinking that it doesn’t matter. But, it does matter – to God.

When our hearts are not right, then our thinking is also off. Our words don’t make sense, and our lives are not on the right path – the one that leads to eternal life.

The word “goofy” is defined as “crazy, silly” Can we see this characteristic in Jesus? If not, perhaps it’s something we need to have changed in us.

According to 2 Timothy 3:6, we see that a silly woman (or person) is laden with sins. Jesus died and rose again to save us from our sins. We need not continue in them.

He is returning again for a glorious Bride without spot or wrinkle (Ephesians 5:27), one who has made herself ready for Him. It takes some time to experience this transformation of the inner man. It took Esther a year of the purification process to become ready for the king.

There’s no time like the present to step into the process of preparation, the one that takes you from goofy to glorious, from being unfit to becoming fully fit for the Master.

We are not to any longer be conformed to this world, thinking like they think; but as we think God’s thoughts instead, we will be transformed by the renewing of our minds. (See Romans 12:1-2.) Some might think that since Isaiah 55:11 says that God’s thoughts are higher than ours, we cannot have those thoughts as our own. But, as I heard one Bible teacher say, “God never said we couldn’t have His thoughts. He just said that they’re higher than ours.”

We have a choice. We can press in and seek the Lord for His thoughts, which are glorious, or we can continue in our own way of thinking, which is at times goofy (crazy and silly).
