Heartwarmer By Kevin Molloy Tithing has always been a hot topic for the church to deal with. I had decided to do a thorough study on the subject; even though it was something that I figured would cost me. It was like overhead with no benefit in sight. I thought. Still I had to do it I thought, and there it was in the Bible. The fact that it meant 10 %was undeniable from the Hebrew word used in the Old Testament. Looking at Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance made this part easy to discover. It was quite revealing as a study because I did not have a high academic understanding of the Bible. This is also the way that I still study the Bible. I went through every verse that mentioned the terms tithe, tithing, tither, tithes and every other derived form of the word and read every verse in the complete Bible. After turning pages in the reference book I had a better knowledge of the whole subject. Then I wanted to study how the culture of the Savior looked at this word. I turned to Vines Expository Dictionary of New Testament words and saw the cultural influence which might give me new insight to the idea of tithing. Then a thought hit me like a ton of bricks! I wanted to prove to myself that God’s word is still powerful today as it was in the days of faith heroes of the past. Is the Bible true? I needed the money desperately but I was out to prove a point and my determination to prove God’s word true was so powerful in my life that I almost could not wait til the church doors opened, and the collection taken, so I could give my money to the offering. As the collection basket went passed me I asked the Lord to take what little I had to give and make it bigger in reality for His glory. I can even remember the amount. It was $13. I just thanked God that He was going to settle the issue once and for all about tithing. I was so excited. Nothing happened at church services that day and my faith was starting to wane about the whole issue, but then the Lord said to me through a song that I hea5rd on the radio saying…. we’ve only just begun by the Carpenters. That particular phrase stood out in my mind and it was surreal to me. The next day I needed to buy some manila folders and the Lord said to me to wait before I bought them. I did price them however and they were more than my wallet could handle, so I was glad to obey the Lord and wait before purchasing them. That afternoon the supervisor asked me to take out the garbage before I left for the day. Always willing to please my boss, I said, “sure no problem.” I went to the garbage location where we always took care of the trash and there was about $130 dollars worth of manila folders with some unwanted extra labels that I was supposed to take out. Instead of the garbage dumpster outside, I asked if I could take them to my car and was given permission to do so. I received ten times my tithe plus the labels to modify them to my own special needs. I had enough manila folders the rest of the time I lived there. The lord blessed me with a ten fold increase in folders I guess that was the Lord Jesus blessing me and you would have a hard time convincing me otherwise. Since that time I have had so many blessings that way that I have decided to write about it each week here at www.believersbay.com Wanna hear more?
