I Am – The Light of the World
It’s midnight. You’re lost in a dangerous section of a city known for its murder rate. Street lights are out. Would you turn them on if you could?
You’re alone in a pitch black forest. You hear huge animals foraging in the bushes nearby. If you had matches would you build a big campfire? Of course you would!
Light is sometimes the difference between life and death physically.
Light is always the difference between life and death spiritually.
Need Light?
Are you seeking Light as you walk in the darkness of life? Isaiah promises you Light: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined.” (Isa. 9:2)
The Light is Jesus, the Son of God, shining on you! “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given….” (Isa. 9:6)
Jesus is the only Messiah given as covenant to Israel and as light to the Gentiles. (Isa 42:6) He comes to open our blind eyes and free us pitiful captives. “He is the sole expression of the glory of God, the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine….” (Heb.1:3) The Light of His salvation covers the whole earth; there is no God except Jehovah, the triune God.
Jesus, Light of the World
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.” (John 8:12)
His Life Light is everlasting (Isa. 60:19) with no shadow or variation caused by His turning; He will never change His mind or position concerning His love for you. (James 1:17)
Why Don’t You Choose Light?
The powers of darkness, Satan and demons, are real. They are the authors of every evil – hatred, murder, pornography, abuse, violence – and they want your soul. They blind you to truth. Also, men choose darkness to hide their evil deeds.
“For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds (that they should not discern the truth), preventing them form seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), who is the Image and Likeness of God.” (ll Cor. 4:4)
“And this is the judgment, that the Light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil.” (John 3:19)
Turn From Darkness, Seek Light
God sends His Word and faithful men and women to turn your heart to Light. Hear and heed! Do not stay in darkness and spiritual death. Ask Jesus if He is the Light of the World. He will prove Himself to you. Pray to Him, He will hear you.
Pray This Prayer
Open my eyes, Lord, so that I may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, in order that I may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Jesus. I believe that you, Jesus Christ, are the Light of the World. (Acts 26:18)
Now Walk as Light Beings
“...for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them….”
(Eph. 5: 8-11)
“But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” (John 3:21)
Let Jesus’ Light shine in you!
