Heart Warmer His father had been a drinking man. Working for the railroad was a tough job but his father liked it. One night as Bob’s father finished his shift God got a hold of his heart, and he repented; getting saved totally. The elder Britton had a son Robert Britton who watched his dad preach wherever he got a chance. No place was too bad for him to do some preaching of the Word. He lost count of how many places his father took him when he was on a mission to preach the Word of the Lord. Robert Britton reminisced to me one day after we met to discuss some issues in our family. How much he appreciated his father’s ministry and how he set the example for Bob all of his life. Times were not good for Bob Britton during his life and he found he could not support his growing family on a preacher’s salary, so he had to leave the ministry (where his heart was) and get some secular employment. His wife could not handle the uncertainty of the parsonage and vocation in which Bob was called to labor. I listened to Robert Britton preach many sermons and I could see the passion with which he delivered every sermon and remarked to his daughter how he seemed to be so on fire for the Lord. Later on he was given a death sentence by the doctor when he was told he had Lou Geherig’s disease. This usually fatal disease did not deter Bob Britton from preaching the Gospel whenever he had the opportunity. He declared by faith that Jesus Christ had healed him. That he was going to fight ALS to the death. He did beat out ALS and lived to minister to others that it was Jesus who had touched him with healing five years later when the doctor declared him healed. His passion for souls was legendary and his love for his family was undeniable. Whenever he thought about his wife’s death a year earlier he would tear up and get silent for awhile and you just knew to wait till he composed himself again. He loved her until his passing because of another ailment this week on his way to glory. Copyright © 2007 Kevin Molloy. All rights reserved. |
