The Prayer Feather by Josprel "Now I'm sure God has a sense of humor," my wife, Maria, informed me at breakfast.
I totally agreed with her; after all, anyone can detect God's sense of humor mirrored in some of the creatures He created. However, I knew she did not have this in mind.
"Do you want to hear what happened to me two mornings ago at five A.M.?"
I did.
"Well, I wakened with a burden to pray, but didn't feel like getting up at that early hour. I decided to pray in bed for the unknown burden God laid on my heart. After a short prayer, I turned on my side to fall asleep and felt what seemed like a feather tickling the side of my nose. Brushing my hand on the spot, I attempted once more to fall asleep.
"Again a feather-like touch tickled the side of my nose. This time, I felt strongly prompted to get up and pray, but the bed felt so comfortable. Anyway, I had no idea what special need I was supposed to pray for. Everything is well with our family and I knew of no other urgent special needs. So why was I prompted to pray so early in the morning?
"I attempted to fall asleep a third time. Again, the feather-like touch tickled the side of my nose. Words flowed through my mind, 'I want you to get up and intercede for a special need.' The very gentleness of the prompting amused me.
'O.K. Lord, I'll get up.'
"I rose from bed, entered the living room and knelt in prayer at our sofa. As my knees touched the rug, an uncontrollable explosion of intercessory prayer in an unknown language gushed from my innermost being. When it subsided, I continued praying in English, until the burden completely lifted.
"Though I don’t know the need for which I prayed, God knows it. Somewhere, someone required immediate, intercessory prayer. Isn’t wonderful to be reassured in this way that God is faithful to meet his children’s needs at all times?"
Of course, I agreed. josprel@verizon.net Copyright © 2006 Josprel (Joseph Perrello). All rights reserved. |
