(Proverbs 6:6 NIV) Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
Ants are amazing creatures. They can lift much more than their body weight. They have a structured society. They work together to achieve a common goal. They live to serve their queen.
If an ant were to consider human beings it would surely decide that we were Gods. We set our own rules. We are huge in comparison. Our thoughts are so vast that an ant couldn’t grasp them. We can create things beyond their comprehension. Many of the things we do could be perceived as miracles.
Perceptions can be very deceptive. Just because a thing seems to be one way doesn’t make it that way. Humans are not Gods. We can get twisted into believing that we are Gods in the same way that Satan got twisted into thinking he was God.
Cloning is no longer science fiction. It is science fact. The question is not can we clone a human being but should we clone a human being. As Christians we face some hefty questions. We have the biological technology to create duplicate human beings. Will that cloned human have a soul (spirit)? Will the cloned human being be capable of being saved? Will that cloned human being disprove the existence of God? Will cloning prove that humans are mere biological creatures instead of spiritual creatures with physical bodies?
Many atheistic scientists have desired to find a way to disprove the existence of God. They wish to put to rest the “foolishness” of the God myth. Their best hope is to take his place and declare, “There is no God!” Then we can look to them and worship their knowledge. We can admire their commitment to our enlightenment. We can ask them to research more and provide more enlightenment. We can trust them to solve our problems. They will be our new God.
(1 Corinthians 1:18-25)
The reality is that science is a good thing. Science solves many problems and makes life easier. Being a scientist doesn’t automatically exclude a person from salvation. It doesn’t automatically make that person an enemy of the cross. Many scientists have turned to Christ as they studied the science that God created. When they search for the answers to the mysteries of the universe they find Christ.
(Ephesians 1:9-10 NIV) And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, {10} to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment–to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
Scientists may be able to clone a human but they cannot create DNA from scratch. They may be able to implant DNA into an embryo but they can’t create the embryo. They must still join an egg and sperm. Life is not their domain. They merely imitate life. If life is still in the hands of God so then is the spirit of any clone. Cloning doesn’t negate the existence of God; it reaffirms his sovereignty in the area of life.
