Birds of Paradise

Cardinal

God reminds me of his great love for his creation by simply gazing out of my window. The birds flock around our feeder. Even though it is winter we have a Cardinal making his presence known with his bright red color.

The other day I turned to look outside just in time for a Blue Heron to fly over the backyard.  The Heron have a large wingspan that glides through the air with ease. It is like an airplane gliding in for a landing. Soaring slowly without a care in the world but dinner.

The Swan

We live in a Bird Sanctuary. It is home to Swans of all types. These huge, magnificent creatures are by far one of the most exquisite. Swans are considered to be one of the fastest flying waterfowl.

Ducks often grace our area. If you are outside you can hear them coming. Ducks fly with great speed. An average speed of 40-60 mph they can accumulate many miles in a day. The fasted speed of a duck ever recorded was 100 mph while being pursued by an airplane.

One of the most fascinating birds we have is the Snowy Egret. This bird is smaller than the Great Egret. Slender black legs and yellow feet mark this bird as unusual but so interesting to watch. You will find them in marsh areas hunting for fish and crabs.

God created many birds to add joy to our lives. We can learn from them.

Birds are peaceful. Sing a lot. Fly with grace. Birds come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Family is paramount. Nurturing comes natural. Feasting is necessary. Up at dawn.
Adaptable. Playful. Protect each others back. Live one day at a time. Carefree.

Matthew 6:26 is a reminder of how God cares for his children. “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Birds don’t  worry about their next meal. Bird’s trust their next meal will be there when they need it. And they don’t even know God exists or is providing their next meal. Not even one of the smallest birds.

What about you? Do you trust God?
