(Matthew 6:24-25 NIV) “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. {25} “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
There’s absolutely no doubt that in order to survive in this world we have to have money. It’s a blunt and sometimes harsh reality. Since the economy got rather tight many of us have had to tighten our belts a bit and make adjustments. Sometimes it seems like no matter what we do we just can’t seem to get ahead.
This is exactly what the devil would like you to believe. He wants us to be discouraged, depressed and defeated. If he had his way we’d all die and he’d torment us for eternity. He’s pure evil and has no good within him. We who trust on the work of Jesus on the cross of Calvary and have confessed him openly have replaced the devil and he’s mad enough to take it out on us for eternity.
Here’s the blunt spiritual reality about the lack of finances. They don’t matter. Yes I know that’s a contradiction to what I said earlier but give me a minute and I’ll explain it.
God has all the money (and everything else) in the universe. If he wanted us to be steeped in riches he’d cause the sky to rain gold coins on us. So, why isn’t it raining gold coins in our lives? Perhaps it is and we just don’t see it.
There are times as a parent that it’s important to NOT give your children everything they want. When God wants us to move and grow and to get up and go and we won’t, he has to inspire us. When Elijah had told Ahab that there would be a drought for several years (I Kings 17:1-16) God provided for him. There was a brook that provided water and God caused the ravens to bring him food.
It was a supernatural supply and Elijah was following the direct instructions of God. Yet, the brook dried up. It was a natural occurrence because there was no rain. It wasn’t until after his water supply dried up that God spoke to him and gave him a different direction to go.
God will move us either through inspiration, by giving us something positive, or he will move us by getting our attention through a negative event. Either way, God will not be ignored. He has plans for our lives and he has plans for the entire history of the universe.
The question you need to be asking yourself at this point is, “Have I ignored God?” If the answer to that question is yes, then the solution is simple. Stop ignoring God.
God may have provision already laid out for you AND for others. Your lack of movement may be hindering those gold coins I spoke of earlier from raining on you AND others. That was the case with Elijah. When he sought God and followed God provision was given him AND a needy family.
The economy is what it is. It’s a natural progression of some bad policies. It doesn’t matter because the one who is able to give true provision in the midst of a drought is ready, willing and able to provide for those who turn to him, trust him and obey him.
(Matthew 6:33-34 NIV) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. {34} Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
This is so true, I am experiencing my own oasis in a land of drought because of the provision of God. There will always be a ram in the thicket for the child of God-He is Jehovah Jireh.
